ICE CORE DRILLS

Ice core device at ILLIMANI
Drill site at ILLIMANI (Bolivia)

Ice core drilled at ILLIMANI (Bolivia)
Ice Core recovered at ILLIMANI

We are designing and manufacturing lightweight ICE CORE DRILLS and related equipment: Even in quite difficult alpinistic conditions our Ice Core Drills can be transported in about 7 porter loads.
Our Ice Core Drills are optimized electromechanical 'Drill by Wire' -systems . At ILLIMANI (Bolivia, 6400 masl) a novice drilling team reached bedrock at 136.7m after 6 working Days. Our Drill systems are optimized for easy transportation AND easy handling.

3" ICE CORE DRILL

We designed and manufactured the prototype of this ice drill during 1998. First tests end of September 1998.
Final test December 1998.
First real life use at the Paul- Scherrer- Institute (PSI) Expedition to Cerro Tapado, February 1999 (Chile, 5500 masl), Bedrock was reached at 36m.
Second use at Illimani (Bolivia, 6400 masl), June 1999. The Illimani - Expedition was a joint- venture of PSI and IRD Monpellier. Two Ice core devices were used, one reached bedrock at 138.7m. the other at 136.7m
Now we are continuously optimizing this icedrill

2" ICE CORE DRILL (Backpack Drill)

This Ice Core Drill is ideal for preparatory expeditions, so it is possible to check the optimal Drillsite in a small operation. For example the Paul Scherrer Instiute explors first the Drillsite with this device together with RADAR measurments.
